Fostering Frequently Asked Questions

What does it take to foster a dog?
A love of dogs and a good environment!

What is a foster home?
Loving foster homes are the backbone of any rescue organization. They are families just like yours that provide a safe, temporary home for rescued pets to rest, recuperate, and prepare to meet their forever families. The dogs in foster care benefit greatly from love and attention and living in a home environment; for some rescued pets, it may be a first.

How long is a dog in foster care?
Animals can be in foster care anywhere from a few days to a few months, with the average stay is about 2-3 weeks. If you have a vacation or business trip planned, don’t worry about your foster pet…we’ll find him another place to stay while you’re away!

What does the foster home provide?
As a North Meck Animal Rescue foster, you provide the comfy place to sleep and all the love you can spare. NMAR covers all of your foster dog’s veterinary expenses, food, medications, and provides any special equipment or supplies.
We ask the foster family to treat the foster pet like any other member of the family. Get to know their personality. Any insight you can offer is helpful to NMAR’s placement decision. Together, you and the animal’s rescue representative decide what kind of home will be best for your foster pet. By facilitating potential adopter meetings, you’ll have the opportunity to meet your foster pet’s new family and ensure it’s a good match.

What if I want to adopt my foster dog?
We understand that “foster failures” occur. If you feel you can give your foster home the forever home they deserve, please let us know immediately! The normal adoption process is followed, including filling out an adoption application. We do hope you’ll continue to foster!

If you are interested in fostering, please fill out our Foster Application. Let us know what kind of dogs you can foster and for how long and we’ll do our best to match you with one of our wonderful dogs. If you have any questions after filling out an application please email our foster coordinator at northmeckclt@gmail.com.
